Journey to Viçe - Discovering the Laz Homeland
Discover the cultural landscapes of Viçe, the historical heart of today’s Fındıklı. Walk along old village paths, visit traditional Laz houses, explore remote highlands and mountain lakes, and experience the living traditions, music and daily life of the eastern Black Sea region.
The Experience
Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival & The Old Village Paths
Guests meet at Rize–Artvin Airport and travel along the Black Sea coast to Fındıklı.
After a welcoming breakfast and hotel check-in, we begin our first walk along the historic Çağlayan Path, passing tea gardens, hazelnut orchards and traditional Laz houses.
Along the way we visit a restored village house and learn about the architecture and daily life of the region.
Later in the day we visit the Tchala Tea workshop, where guests discover different tea varieties and learn about the role of tea in the local culture.
Dinner and overnight in Fındıklı.
Day 2 – Highlands of Viçe
After breakfast we travel into the Arılı Valley, following the traditional highland route used by local communities.
The journey passes through a series of mountain plateaus before reaching one of the highest points of the region. A short walk leads us to Karagöl, a hidden alpine lake surrounded by dramatic landscapes.
Throughout the day we learn about the region’s highland culture, pastoral traditions and the unique geography of the eastern Black Sea mountains.
Dinner and overnight in Fındıklı.
Day 3 – Village Life & Farewell
After breakfast we travel again to the Arılı Village for a gentle nature walk.
Later we visit a historic Laz house dating back several centuries, where the hosts share stories about traditional life in the region.
The visit ends with local music performed with tulum and kemençe, two instruments deeply rooted in Black Sea culture.
Following lunch, guests transfer to Rize–Artvin Airport for departure.
